Mission

Together, we make music.

Together, we can do anything!

History

The LSO has been an integral part of the cultural fabric of Lynchburg since it began in 1983.

Over the years the LSO has performed more than 200 concerts ranging from classical to pops; provided annual educational concerts to over 10,000 children at local schools and community centers; given free summer concerts to the community at City Stadium; welcomed athletes from around the globe each September at the Genworth Virginia Ten Miler; and brought celebrities to the area such as Tony Award winning actress and singer, Faith Prince, pianist Gustavo Romero, and country musicians Emmy Lou Harris and Roy Clark.

Our Conductor & Music Director

Dr. Christoper Swanson came to  the LSO in 2014.  He received degrees in music from Michigan State University and University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his doctorate from Florida State University.  He now lives in Farmville with his wife Melanie and their children Breanna, Grace, Ellie, Abigail, Charles and new baby Vienna Jewell.

Dr. Swanson is currently an Associate Professor of Music at Longwood University and has been teaching, conducting and singing since moving to Virginia in 2003.  A man active in many musical areas, he is also the artistic director and co-founder of the Summer Garden Opera, founded in 2009.

Dr. Swanson believes the Lynchburg community deserves the very best and will strive to make music that is worthy of our wonderful city.

The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to providing a professional music experience to our community. Tell everyone around you that great art is alive and well in Lynchburg.
