Fall 2026 Auditions: August 18 and 22, 2026
Spring 2027 Auditions: January 5 and 9, 2027
General Information:
LSYO is open to elementary, middle, and high school aged musicians who meet the audition requirements. Home schooled students are welcome.
LSYO has two ensembles: String Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra. All auditioning strings musicians will be considered for both ensembles. Winds, brass, and percussion musicians will be considered for the Symphonic Orchestra.
There is no fee to audition.
If a musician cannot attend the in-person auditions, please contact the LSYO Coordinator to schedule a make-up audition.

Audition Requirements for Strings:
- Scale of student choice
- String Orchestra: two octaves required
- Symphonic Orchestra: three octaves required
- Prepared excerpts from the upcoming session repertoire – contact LSYO Coordinator
- Sight Reading
Audition Requirements for Piano:
- One harmonic minor scale (student choice): 2 octaves, 2 hands, 8th notes, minimum speed of quarter = 100
- Prepared excerpt (emailed to musicians when they sign up to audition)
- Please note that piano auditions are not open every season – check with LSYO Coordinator for availability
Audition Requirements for Winds:
- Chromatic scale
- Prepared excerpts from the upcoming session repertoire – contact LSYO Coordinator
- Sight Reading
Audition Requirements for Percussion:
- Snare rudiments: concert roll (pp<ff>pp), flam accent, single drag tap
- Snare Etude and Triangle Audition Study (emailed to musicians when they sign up to audition)
- Snare sight reading (provided at audition)
